TEACHING

In my work as a teacher and mentor, I am committed to students feeling that we are working collaboratively as thinkers and learners. I am particularly invested in illuminating the importance of understanding our individual learning habits to develop a sustainable practice for intellectual growth. This means that I prioritize scaffolded assignments, revision, and ongoing reflection about the process of knowledge production as much as its products.

At UCI and the University of Michigan, I have taught a broad range of courses from smaller senior seminars and introductory writing courses to larger general education lectures and surveys. I have worked with undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students on a range of topics within my areas of expertise. I regularly teach classes that explore Latinx feminism in literature and media, literature and the mind, multiethnic women’s literature, feminist narrative theory, and critical race and archive theory.

Although my primary teaching  is in the English department at UCI, I have affiliate status in the department of Chicano and Latino studies and I sometimes cross list my courses with the department of Gender and Sexuality Studies, so you can find some of my courses listed in those departments as well.

To find out more about my current courses, please head to the UCI English Department website UCI webpage.

latinx research cluster

Along with my colleagues Christofer Rodelo and Mercedes Trigos, I run the Latinx Humanities Research Cluster at UC Irvine.

The group brings together undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty at all levels (and across varied schools and disciplines) who are interested in the Latinx Humanities. We run events focused on mentoring, publishing, and research. To find out more about our current events or to join our listserv please visit our website here: UCI Latinx Humanities Research Cluster

UCI Junior faculty writing group

This co-writing group brings together early career scholars working on publishing their first book on gender, race, and/or sexuality. We meet once a week to write, but we also facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions, writing workshops, and writing intensives. If you are interested in joining us and would like to be added to the listserv, please email me at the link below.
